The Not So Social Network

I love all of you who actually take the time to read these posts.  It means a lot to me.  I'm sort of surprised I have as many views as I do, so thank you.  Though a blog is a form of social media, I find it to be different than Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and MySpace (just kidding, no one actually has a MySpace anymore).  But you get the point.  Twitter's the place to say witty or wise things, as long as they don't reach over 140 characters of course.  Facebook is the place where we can keep in touch with family and where eventually they all comment embarrassing things on your photos.  Instagram is for us to share all those terribly interesting photos of the sky, our face, and our dinner.

Yes, I have over 5,000 pins on Pinterest.

My Instagram! :)
Now, I'm not bashing these sites at all.  I don't know if I could live without my Pinterest or Vine.  But there is my point.  I "couldn't live without it."  The people of the 21st century, myself included, have become so absorbed with social media that it has taken over our lives.  Instead of doing the hours of homework I have, here I sit, typing away on my laptop and going on about how it has essentially ruined my life.  A blog is nicer than say, whining about life on Facebook, because it's most definitely an outlet to share and get ideas and inspiration.  My thought here is that social networks keep us unsocial.  Instead of calling our friend or meeting them for lunch, we text them or comment on one of their photos.  Heck, we don't even ring doorbells anymore!  Well, sometimes I do, and I always prefer a phone call, but let's all just admit that technology has made lots of things far more convenient for us.  It's sort of a shame, and chivalry is sort of dying because of it.  Now if boys want to ask a girl on a date, they can just text them or message them on that.  Where is the sweetness in that?  I typically have the longest conversations over text with people, instead of just talking to them.  So sometimes I do call, and I love receiving phone calls.  After all, doesn't it seem like that person actually wants to talk to you if they take the time to call?  I don't know, the whole thing confuses me because social media has also done a lot of good.  News spreads faster now and people are able to connect more.  I guess it's just a two way street in this situation.  The question here is: To love, or to hate social media?  One more thing, I absolutely love hand written letters... not that people really write anymore, but it sure is nice when they do.  It feels so much more personal than an email or something like that.  It may seem silly, but I find beauty in handwritten sentiments and long, late night phone calls.  Of course, the greatest of all is face to face interaction (and no, not FaceTime).  Actually physically sitting with someone in a coffee shop or at a park and just talking like regular people who have not been corrupted by social media.  Now I really need to go do that homework... Until next time. xxx
